How the Construction Unit Converter works
This converter turns one length, area, volume or weight into every common unit of the same kind at once: inches, feet, yards, millimeters, centimeters and meters; square inches, square feet, square yards, acres and square meters; cubic inches, cubic feet, cubic yards, US gallons, liters and cubic meters; ounces, pounds, short tons, grams, kilograms and metric tonnes.
Every conversion uses the exact legal definitions (NIST): 1 in = 25.4 mm, 1 ft = 12 in, 1 yd = 3 ft, 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft, 1 US gallon = 231 cu in, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg and 1 short ton = 2,000 lb. For area and volume, square or cube the length factor: 1 sq yd = 3 × 3 = 9 sq ft, and 1 cu yd = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cu ft.
Example: 10 cubic yards of concrete. 10 × 27 = 270 cu ft, and 270 × 1,728 = 466,560 cu in. 466,560 ÷ 231 = 2,019.74 US gallons. In metric, 466,560 × 16.387064 cm³ = 7,645,549 cm³, or 7.64555 m³.
Length takes tape-measure entries such as 5' 3 1/2"; a plain number is read in the unit picked under "Convert from". The answer people usually want comes first (cubic yards → cubic feet, pounds → kilograms). Weight converts only to weight: to turn cubic yards of gravel or concrete into tons you need the material's weight per cubic yard from your supplier.

How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?
27. A yard is 3 feet, so a cubic yard is 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cubic feet. To go from cubic feet to cubic yards, divide by 27: 40 cu ft ÷ 27 = 1.48 cu yd.
How many square feet are in an acre?
An acre is exactly 43,560 square feet, which is 4,840 square yards or about 4,046.86 square meters. A 100' × 100' lot (10,000 sq ft) is about 0.23 acre.
How do you convert feet and inches to meters?
